Boomkat Product Review:
Very bloody good ambient/black Techno from some character working as Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement for Prurient’s Hospital Productions. We wouldn’t like to hazard a guess at who this is, but it sounds somewhere between Prurient’s more bleached out ambient bits and a less noisy Alberich, full of groaning metallic timbres and strangely artificial nature sounds, anchored to deep, distant bass pulses. ‘Life Would Transform’ feels something like a field recording made inside a vast warehouse, capturing far away birdsong amidst screeching metal-on-metal textures and cold piss dripping on ceramic surfaces. ‘Skull Covered In Moss’ is more layered, with an emaciated metronome keeping time while clangourous machinations occur just out of sight. Recommended.

In case you were out of the loop, or living under a large slab of stone for the last 5 years, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement is Dominick Fernow’s more grey-scaled moniker, which is saying a lot for an artist who deals in doom and gloom through projects like Vatican Shadow and Prurient, among many others. This new 12″ bombshell, out through the man’s own mythical Hospital Productions, literally drops us head first into the deepest, darkest corners of the jungle, but this ain’t no Pixar film; the mood is sombre and the monsters are out of their caves. This pair of twelve-minute experiments carefully gain momentum amid the sounds of the animal kingdom, growing and shifting into what sounds suspiciously like a ritualistic form of ancient techno. Could this be what they Mayans listened to? Is it an ode to the Gods? Fernow’s the only one with the answer…

Marking six years of RAINFOREST SPIRITUAL ENSLAVEMENT’s cultish, elemental output, DOMINICK FERNOW gives the project’s first ever release a vinyl pressing for the first time, coiling up two extended tracts of impure, unnatural gloom ranking amongst his most cherished works. Fallen Leaves Camouflaged Behind Tropical Flowers was originally released on tape in 2011 in an edition of 59. When RSE was first conceived with Fallen Leaves Camouflaged Behind Tropical Flowers in 2011, the project was shrouded in a veil of mystery which left many fiends guessing to its provenance—it seemed too far reduced to be identified as Fernow’s work, but also didn’t easily resonate with anyone of Hospital Productions’ usual suspects, instead holding a unique line of stygian slow techno that sounded like some our bleakest, febrile fantasies come to life. Soon enough RSE’s creator and navigator was indeed revealed to be Fernow, and the project became regarded among his most prized golems by those in the know, not least because it was starkly defined in contrast to his myriad other pseudonyms—VATICAN SHADOW, PRURIENT, CHRISTIAN COSMOS, FORCE PUBLIQUE CONGO, etc.—by dint of its perceived restraint and glowering minimalism. Perhaps because of that stringent, meditative asceticism, the hypnotic grip of RSE has remained undiminished and perhaps as strong as ever on this new vinyl edition, where the predator heartbeat and keening tonal groans of “Life Would Transform” sound more pensive and narcotically effective than ever, and the borderland industrial chug and clag of “Skull Covered In Moss” seems to be seated deeper into its dank gloom, emulating a location recording of a burial-by-mud in some godforsaken no-man’s-land, with lurking parakeets and mechanical birds awaiting their turn on your soon-to-be carrion. Edition of 500.

Achim WollscheidのS.B.O.T.H.I. いまでこそ、このS.B.O.T.H.I.

:Achim Wollscheid
Achim Wollscheid is a media artist whose work over the past 20 years has been at the forefront of experimental music. He has performed and presented installation projects internationally. His work in sound has led to an interest in the relation between sound, light and architectural space, which he pursues through public, interactive and electronic projects. He is a founding member of SELEKTION, an organisation for the production and distribution of information systems. His book, The Terrorized Term, was published by SELEKTION in 1999. Today he still works as an artist for light and sound installations in Frankfurt/Main.

Bartolomé Sanson

Félicia Atkinson ‘ Hand In Hand ’ 、Bellows ‘ Strand ’ 、D/P/I ‘ Composer ’ 、Kassel Jaeger / Stephan Mathieu / Akira Rabelais ‘Zauberberg ’ など、どれも素晴らしいが、グラフィックやアートデザインの観点からみればFélicia Atkinson ‎– A Readymade CeremonyとBen Vida ‎– Slipping Controlの2枚がより卓越していると思う。
