Various ‎– Institute For Psychoacoustics And Electronic Music (IPEM) – 50 Years Of Electronic And Electroacoustic Music At The Ghent University

In commemoration of IPEM’s 50th anniversary, Metaphon presents next to the CD edition (2 CD’s with lavishy illustrated 88 page book) a deluxe vinyl edition containing 3 LP’s with the book and the 2 CD’s (same material as the LP’s) all housed in a hardboard linen LP box. From the huge archive of IPEM recordings a selection was made featuring works by Lucien Goethals, Didier Gazelle, Louis De Meester, David Van de Woestijne, Stefan Beyst, Helmut Lachenmann, Boudewijn Buckinx, Karel Goeyvaerts, Emmanuel Van Weerst, Peter Beyls, Raoul De Smet, Frank Nuyts, Ricardo Mandolini, Peter Schuback, Stephen Montague and Yves Knockaert. All tracks were recorded at the IPEM studio and mastered from the original tapes. Most tracks are previously unreleased.
The absolute freedom of thought, together with the availability of new technology for sound recording, sound manipulation and sound distribution formed a fertile soil for the production of electroacoustic music at the IPEM in Ghent. The music is radical in many ways, both in terms of composition and in the use of sounds and their combinations. The music ignores traditional structures and emerging phenomena such as tonality and meter and replaces them with other structural principles based on sound transformations and gestures.

Metaphon:
Metaphon is a non-profit record label and concert organization founded in 2007 by Timo Van Luijk, Greg Jacobs and Marc Wroblewski.
The label focuses on releasing archive material of mainly Belgian experimental or electronic music composers / sound artists. Their only criterion is personal taste; releasing works they find interesting or important and present them in a way that respects and supports the music and the musicians themselves.
With the same ideology they have been organizing various concerts by a.o. Catalogue, Richard Pinhas, Michael Ranta, AMM, Michel Deneuve, Limpe Fuchs, …
In 2010, Metaphon started the series ‘Musiques Insolites’ in co-operation with Brussels based music gallery ‘Les Ateliers Claus’ organizing Sunday afternoon events with a.o. David Behrman, Joan La Barbara, Asmus Tietchens, DDAA, Rod Summers.
